Order Only: Shocking news
May. 29th, 2013 05:21 pmHe's dead. Voldemort is dead.
Assassinated by Theodolphus Higgs at Court yesterday afternoon.
Dominic Selwyn just told me. Privately. In a conference room. He says he was there, saw it happen, and killed Theo Higgs trying to stop him.
He wanted to reassure me that the Protector's work has been done for quite some time largely by his Council, and thus we can 'ensure a smooth transition' -- except that there are divisions within the Council. Not surprising, I suppose, that all those bastards are now wands-out for one another. He wants me on his side, in his faction -- he smiled at me. Smugly. Calculatingly. He offered me Rosier's job, if I throw my lot in with his -- I could be the Division Director in charge of Purity Control. He said he needs new blood -- people he can trust.
I can't quite believe it. Frankly, I'm not sure I do believe it. I don't know if I believe Voldemort is actually dead, I certainly don't believe Higgs was the one who did it (a wet-behind-the-ears second-rate new recruit?) though I might believe Dominic Selwyn knows who actually did. He certainly knew more than he was telling me.
I do believe Selwyn will eventually win the power struggle. It's his faction that's been running things for years. Joining him now, though, may be painting a big target on my back. I need advice. Do we dare take the risk? It's not a Council position, which is actually rather a relief. But for the Order, it would be an opportunity which may never come again.
I did try to find out who's in which faction and didn't get much. Selwyn's allied with Malfoy and Yaxley, and maybe Dolohov and Crouch. I'm not so sure about the Lestranges. Rosier, apparently, is pretending to be horribly ill and staying home until he can tell which way the wind is blowing.
Those of you at Hogwarts--don't you dare breathe a word of this. Safer if you appear to get the word through official channels, the same time as all of your friends, before you show any reaction.
Voldemort, dead. Good lord.

Minerva, you're in the best position to inform us about whether Bill ought to take Selwyn's offer, and can also confirm the things he's told us. Please let us know what you do as soon as you can. And even if you can't speak openly, you can answer two questions: should Bill say yes? Is He really dead?

Date: 2013-05-29 11:15 pm (UTC)It could be a group effort. Led by Selwyn himself, perhaps?
It is quite an opportunity, Bill.
My head is swimming.

I'm leaning toward going for it. But yeah, watching my back goes without saying.

Seriously, though. Be careful.
At least Selwyn owes our family a life debt, yeah? So he'll look out for you.
