Order Only: I have a new boss
Jun. 25th, 2014 08:51 pmThe announcement was made today. Geoffrey Kindle is moving over from Internal Affairs to take the position last held by the late, unlamented Corax Mulciber. What my position will be is rather hazy while so much shuffling is going on, but it's more than a mere flunky, I hope. He is bringing his own clerk over with him from Internal Affairs, Violet Allthorpe, who has been with him for a number of years and knows just how to sharpen and line up his pencils the way he likes them.
No, I am not joking.
I am moving as fast as I can to make it clear I'm indispensable. Only in my dreams am I the Assistant Director of Protectorate Affairs, but then no one else is, either, and there's no talk--yet--of creating the role. My title (Senior Adjutant), after all, was something that Corax made up, making my position on the departmental flow chart ambiguous. As best as I could tell it meant I was 'the bloke who does whatever I tell him to do.'
Kindle and Ms Allthorpe have spent the day cleaning out Corax's office, tut-tutting about the dust and half-eaten decaying sandwiches in the corners (nothing has been said about the file cabinets, which I enspelled with duplio cantrips).
Right. I will be sticking close to the office for awhile, keeping an eye on things as the jockeying for influence and positions continues.

Date: 2014-06-26 02:57 am (UTC)I've taken the opportunity to slip some glowing reviews into your files. Jeremy, I hope they'll be useful if and when you think of trying to make the move to magical transportation, to get us an in with the portkey people.

Date: 2014-06-26 04:59 am (UTC)If Kindle goes looking for me tomorrow, you might want to convey the impression that you think I deliberately absented myself to irritate him. To show him that MEU doesn't answer to Protectorate Affairs, like I'm throwing my weight around a bit. You don't know where I am.
(I'm going to be at Argyll. I'm marshalling reasons to explain that fact, if anyone wonders about it later.)
