Private message to Ron and Ginny Weasley
Dec. 15th, 2013 01:15 pmHello to you from the Weasleys on the home front. Wanted to drop you a line to check in to see how you're doing. Are you swamped with essays and exams now that the holiday's coming up? You had a Hogsmeade Day yesterday, didn't you? Fred and George mentioned it; they swung by the town to hook up for a visit with their old schoolmate Cedric Diggory. I hope you took the opportunity to get out of the castle for the afternoon and walk into town.
I wanted to touch base partly to reassure you, because I know Charlie wrote to you both to let you know I was at St Mungo's last week, and he told me that Ginny was especially concerned at the news. Well, I certainly didn't plan to end up at the hospital, but everything's fixed up with no problem and I'm entirely on the mend. Still, I imagine the news must have been rather a shock, and painful especially at this time of year. But all's well with me now, and I think I've even managed to convinced Mum of it.
Fred and George and Mum have been busy getting ready for the Grand Opening. There'll be events going on all afternoon, door prizes on the hour and such, but don't worry: Mum will slip away to meet you at the train by 4:00 and bring you back there, and we expect there will still be a gathering of our friends going on. Fred and George will be doing a small pyrotechnics display on the roof at around 6:00 (not a full fireworks rig-out, but some just rockets and Roman candles; it'll be still exciting enough that they took the trouble to get a variance permit with the city).
I think that concentrating on the preparations has been good for Mum, so she's not brooding too much about the date. It'll still be hard. I don't know how you two have been doing, but I've been having a lot of memories of Dad well up in the past week. Bittersweet, really, but I guess grief works that way. We're going to limit our efforts at cleanup when the day's events are done, because Charlie and I plan on taking us out for dinner afterwards, so we can be spend some time remembering Dad.
Good luck getting done with everything you need to finish this next week, and I'll see you on Saturday.
